COME ON! YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!

Wow. This is for real!

A B-52 bomber mistakenly loaded with five nuclear warheads flew from Minot Air Force Base, N.D, to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on Aug. 30, resulting in an Air Force-wide investigation, according to three officers who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the incident.

The B-52 was loaded with Advanced Cruise Missiles, part of a Defense Department effort to decommission 400 of the ACMs. But the nuclear warheads should have been removed at Minot before being transported to Barksdale, the officers said. The missiles were mounted onto the pylons of the bomber’s wings.

Im going to repeat a part of this...cause it bears repeating.

The missiles were mounted onto the pylons of the bomber’s wings.

As in...ready to be fired/dropped/launched. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? There is no process in place to make sure....that something like NUCLEAR WEAPONS arent mounted on bombers unless the shit is gonna hit the fan? I mean, these things werent locked in cases...they were MOUNTED ON THE WINGS.

Oi yoy yoy.

Cruise missles are too big to fit into the bay in some cases, from waht I've been told.

My favorite part of the article is where they stated that "Officials believe that if the missiles crashed the warheads wouldn't detonate." Believe? Seriously.

Actually, that's correct - the warheads do not detonate. If they're doing a test and fire an ICBM - and let's say it crashes - the 'nuke' part of the bomb does not go off. The process to get the 'nuke' is an atomic chain reaction and its not triggered by crashing to the ground.

That being said...

I think this story may be a fabrication on the military's part as a 'psi-op' against Iran. We've done it before and I wouldn't be surprised if this is more of the same. And that's a good thing - Iran needs to think we're that batsh!t crazy right now. =)
